Chair of ChiraFund Malawi
Jane is a Senior Lecturer at the Malawi College of Medicine, and a specialist in HIV medicine.
She has been the Head of the Department of Medicine since 2014, and is very pro-active in constantly trying to improve the quality of training the medical students and junior doctors receive, which in turn, benefits the patients.
George is the full time manager of the Chira Fund. He started working with Malcolm Molyneux as a volunteer over 15 years ago in an informal capacity, as he always had the heart to help any of the patients who are in need. In 2015 when Chira Fund was registered as a Charity in Malawi George began to receive a full-time wage.
He is one of the most well-known and beloved people at Queens as he can be found in any of the departments all over the hospital, responding to requests for help from the staff. His days are very varied, dealing with anything from damaged plumbing to looking for the relatives of a patient who has been brought into the hospital without anyone.
George has the ear of all the staff at the hospital. He is forever patient smiling kind and unflappable. People trust him and are willing to work with him through thick and thin.
Board Member and Fundraiser
Alice started voluntary work with ChiraFund in 2014, and worked with Malcolm to formally register the charity, setting up boards of trustees and complying with tax authorities both in the UK and Malawi. She also worked with George to manage projects at hospital level, including: infrastructure projects, nursing care projects, and the on-going purchase of day-to-day hospital necessities including medicines, supplementary nutrition etc.
Although Alice left Malawi in 2018, she is actively involved with fundraising for ChiraFund and serves on the Board.
Before coming to Malawi, Asher Jacobsberg helped to establish and run social enterprises in the UK that aimed to foster community development and participation. Although his expertise is in writing and delivering training, running small organisations on a tight budget encouraged him to become a jack of all trades, dabbling in everything from design and marketing to accounting and statistics. He now uses his skills to assist a number of small Malawian NGOs on a voluntary basis.
Program Coordinator Volunteer
Caroline has been living in Malawi since 2014 and became the
Co-ordinator for ChiraFund in 2019.
She has a varied background, having worked first in the health sector as a nurse and midwife and then changed direction to a shorter career as an exploration geologist.
Caroline has been involved in the running of a few not-for-profit organisations in the past and is able to use both her organisational skills and nursing background to work alongside George on a day-to-day basis.
Jess has been volunteering at ChiraFund since January 2020 bringing her creative flair in marketing and digital design.
Jess has designed and built us our brand new website, is our official photographer and creates literature to use for fundraising.
Alongside Asher she is in charge of our Social Media output.
